After weeks of politicians and second-rate media outlets telling lies about the Safe Schools Coalition, the Is Nothing Sacred team reckons its time to hear from people who knew that they’re talking about.
So Steph talks to actual people from actual schools that are actually part of the coalition – three students from Thornbury High School, the principal of Thornbury High, and a parent of children at Northcote High – and ask them what they think of the program.
The team also chat with intern Rory (of Minus18 and Safe Schools Coalition, pretty much the most committed LGBTIQ intern around) about the impact of the homophobic commentary on himself and other LGBTIQ young people.
Also, long-time LGBTIQ advocate Jamie Gardener is asked about what all this hoo-ha means in the fight towards equality, and whether the Australian Christian Lobby has come up with any new ideas in the last few decades.
(Spoiler alert: the answer is “not really”.)
Aired on the 7th of February, 2016.
