What’s the Difference Between Informed Consent and Referral Letter for Seeking Medical Affirming Gender Support?
Historically if I wanted to get medical affirming support such as hormone therapy, the most common way was to see a mental health professional over a period of time and get a letter from them to take to my doctor that explains the criteria I meet when it comes to gender dysphoria. Whilst I do these letters reluctantly, the thing that worries me is that it forces the discussion onto the medicalisation and pathologisation of my identity.
