Around the world women are leading the way when it comes to inclusion in sport, especially when it comes to LGBTIQA+ representation. We’ve seen it in the AFLW, and even last week we were talking here on the show about the fact that the number of LGBTIQA+ players in the FIFA Womens World Cup has doubled since the last championship in 2019.
Sport can be a place where many in our communities feel unwelcome, so we know that this kind of visibility is everything, but living your authentic life is one thing, communicating that to the rest of the world, who see sport in a certain light is another ball game.
Joining Rach & Dean on JOY Breakfast was Dr Kasey Symons, a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Swinburne University working within the Sport Innovation Research Group, specialising in sport for development and sport and social impact and SIREN Sport cofounder. She is hosting ‘Women in sport’ event this week that’s bringing together people in the women’s sport media space, or those involved in women’s sport to facilitate connections between content creators and the community.
