‘A Beat To Hold Back The Dawn’ is an interactive exhibition as part of the Midsumma Festival using cutting-edge technology, this immersive exhibition recreates Melbourne’s past and present queer nightclubs into a single utopia.
Using 3D spatial data generated from photogrammetry, volumetric recordings, archival materials and with a soundtrack of pummelling beats, the work reacts in real time to visitors.
Each person will have a unique experience as they interact with the work to shape the visual narrative.
‘A Beat To Hold Back The Dawn’ celebrates the ongoing history and cultural significance of queer nightclubs. Despite their fragility due to gentrification, police raids and public condemnation, these clubs play an important role in forging community and creating welcoming spaces.
Award-winning filmmaker and artist Logan Mucha brings this work to life and joins Rach and Dean on JOY Breakfast to tell them all about it.
