On todays JOY Breakfast, Rach & Dean hopped into their queer time machine to take a look at our queer history in our own backyard.
On Mondays show we spoke to Karla Eggelton about the historic moment last week when homosexuality was decriminalised in the Cook Islands. And that not only filled us with so much pride, it got us thinking about our own journey to decriminalisation in Australia.
And while Tasmania may have been the final state to decriminalise homosexuality, they have powered through leading the way in change, inclusion and visibility for equal rights for LGBTIQA+ people.
Joining Rach & Dean on todays show was Rodney Croome, a man who was at the forefront of the fight to change the law in the late 90s in Australia, and continues to champion the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTQI) Australians decades later.
What does it take to put yourself on the line in this way? We find out in a beautiful conversation that not only reflects on the past, but helps us move forward to a better future together.
