One week out from the Victorian State Election, more than 4000 people marched through Melbourne’s CBD mistakenly thinking the Marriage Act was a state law and demanding Premier John Brumby change it to allow any two consenting adults to marry – regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.
With lesbian comedian Hannah Gadsby as emcee, those delivering speeches included Senator Sarah Hanson-Young (Greens), Hon Bronwyn Pike (Labor), Fiona Patten (Aust. Sex Party), Stephen Jolley (CFMEU & Socialist Party), Jeanette Rice & Penny Whetton (Rainbow family) and comedian Josh Thomas.
