Melbourne Queer Film Festival 2014: “Meth Head”

Uncategorized

Kyle Peoples (Lukas Haas) is stuck in a dead-end accounting job, waiting for his break as a furniture designer. He’s engaged to Julian (Wilson Cruz), who’s successful and contented with their life together, but an innocent night out together turns their life around. At a party they meet Dusty (Blake Berris), who offers them drugs; the guys innocently indulge, but for Kyle it’s the kick he needs to escape his dull reality. He begins hanging out with Dusty and Maia, two meth heads, and soon finds himself tossed out of his home, renting a room in Maia’s grandmother’s house. Life is amazing at first – he can do whatever he wants – but soon the harsh realities of life come careening towards him as he needs to find cash to indulge his habit.

Sweeping the prizes at Filmout San Diego, collecting 7 awards including Best Film, Director and Actor, Meth Head is a searing portrait of addiction and the trail of destruction it leaves in its wake. First time director Jane Clark successfully creates a believable world, drawing the audience into this haunting portrait of a man lost in a spiral of addiction. (Paul Tonta)

Winner: Jury Prize First Time Feature Director Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

Director Jane Clark is exepected to be in attendance.
