Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) will present Righteous: Rights at the Round Table – a youth driven forum providing a creative space for culturally diverse youth expression and celebration at Melbourne Fringe 2014. Righteous is an equal platform and ’round table’ for young people 25 and under to present and discuss ideas, stories and struggles. This year’s forum will offer five hours of provocative thinking, performances, discussions and workshops in hip-hop, spoken word, and zine making. Righteous takes place 12noon-5pm Sunday 28 September at the Fringe Club, North Melbourne Town Hall and is a free event.

Robyn Gawenda has co-organised Righteous alongside fellow colleague at MAV Fablice Manirakiza, and together they run MAV’s youth programs and the youth steering committee. Robyn holds a Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) from the University of Western Australia where she was the recipient of the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship which enabled her to undertake a semester of study in Osaka at Kansai Gaidai University and has recently completed her Masters of Arts Management at RMIT.The main areas of focus during her study were the development of cultural policy in Australia and the legislation surrounding live music in Melbourne.

Robyn has taken an interest in the arts ever since she started playing classical guitar at the age of 11. She has performed at the Darwin International Guitar Festivals and performed and recorded in England with the West Australian Guitar Ensemble “Guitarstrophe!” This passion for music translated into playing and managing bands in Perth and creating a regular zine called Freakshow that worked with local venues and retailers to promote local music and artists. Outside of MAV, Robyn is a City of Yarra Youth Ambassador and sits on the City of Yarra Youth Advisory Committee and in her spare time plays bass, creates zines and loves to travel.
