Welcome to the 1st hour of the Midsumma Carnival Day outside broadcast, which was brought to you live from the JOY 94.9 Community stage in Alexandra Gardens. With a myriad of arts, cultural, sports and community events to experience, the Midsumma festival celebrates Melbourne’s queer communities in all their diversity. Carnival Day brings everyone together to kick off the 3 week celebration of all things rainbow!

In our first hour David, Sue and Ande had a wide variety of guests drop by for a chat and a song or two. Those guests were:

Zoe and Leanne from Switchboard
A performance from both the current Miss Transsexual Australia & Miss Gay Australia which was followed by a chat with Dee, J-O Rojas, Salzaa Dipp, Charisma and Veronica Lace who are contestants in this year’s pageant.
Ellen and Zac from the Queer Peers Support Group at Latrobe University
Daniel Witthaus, Author & community educator from National institute for Challenging Homophobia Education (NICHE)
Dolly Diamond performing her own rendition of Love is In The Air from her latest Midsumma show and premier event, Under a Big Top.
Martin Foley, MP for Albert Park and the new Victorian minister for Equality
The hunky men from the Firefighter’s Calendar who are raising money for the Children’s Hospital Burns Unit
Dean Arcuri performs a tune from his latest Midsumma show, Please Don’t Look at Me.
Dane from the Glamourhead Sharks swimming squad and Sebastian from the Melbourne Spikers volleyball club join us to share what’s happening on at the Team Melbourne Sports Day at the end of January.
