City of Moonee Valley IDAHOBIT 2016 Celebration

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is held each year on 17 May. On the evening of May the 19th, City of Moonee Valley council proudly showed their continued support for their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) residence by holding a film screening of the critically-acclaimed Australian documentary Gayby Baby, an intimate and sometimes humorous insight into the lives of children growing up with same-sex parents.
As the doors of the Clocktower Centre opened on the night, guests were greeted with refreshments before being lead into the theatrette ready for the night’s proceedings. Firstly attendees were welcomed by Cr Cam Nation and he was followed by Mayor, Cr Andrea Surace who introduced the short film ‘All you need is love‘.
Following the short film, Sally Conning a member of the LGBTIQ Working Group made way to the podium to give attendees a little background into the history and meaning of IDAHOBIT. Following Sally, it was time to hear from guest speaker Daniel Witthaus from ‘Beyond That’s So Gay’. Daniel was making his return to the Clocktower Centre after being a guest for ‘Rainbow Stories in the Valley’ in 2015, in which he was also a guest. JOY was honored to be at both the 2015 and 2016 celebrations and we thank Moonee Valley for supporting our organisation.
