Social media is an unavoidable part of modern political campaigns, but for openly LGBTQIA+ politicians, it is also a dangerous space.

New research shows queer politicians faced highly personal and identity-based abuse during the last federal election—far beyond what their straight, cisgender colleagues experienced.

As we head into another election cycle, what can we expect? Why does this kind of targeted abuse matter, not just for candidates but for the next generation of queer Australians considering a political career?
