30 years ago today, 463 law-abiding citizens were enjoying their evening at the Tasty Nightclub when about 50 police officers burst into the club and strip searched the patrons.
The violent nature of the attack was unexpected and it destroyed the relationship between the LGBTIQ+ community and Victoria Police.
Due to a scared community, the club lacked patronage after the raid and closed five weeks later.
The police eventually apologised in 2014, and settled a class action lawsuit totalling $6m.
