Musings – After Midnight
You wouldn’t read about it.
Well I haven’t read about it.
And I reckon it could become a BIG factor in this year’s brouhaha in Baku.
Tick, tock. Tick, tock.
Because of time zones and TV schedulers the competitors at ESC 2012 will be facing an additional challenge.
The chansons will be sung in the very dark watches of the night as the show will be a late night affair.

The reason is simple: Baku is four hours ahead of London, three of Rome and one of Moscow.
So to hit the primest of prime time in Europe & to be live, the ESC will be sallying forth closer to midnight than ever before.
Some singers will cope, others will not.
It’s not so much the hour of performances as the hours before that performance.
After a fortnight or so in Azerbaijan and fully de-jet lagged how would you cope with a full day before the most or one of the most important moments in your career ?
A long lie-in on May 26th or a flurry of shopping around the numerous and heaving bazaars of Baku or many, many attempts to read a L. Ron Hubbard ?
I’d opt for a “West Wing” or “Curb Your Enthusiasm” DVD marathon, including audio commentaries on selected episodes.
Boredom, frustration and nervousness will be difficult to fight off.
This may well play into the hands of the more experienced performers.
And most experienced of those is Arnold George Dorsey AKA Engelbert Humperdinck, who’ll be a couple of weeks past his 76th birthday when he graces the stage on Grand Final night in pole position.
Will the Dinckster be in the “zone” ?

So, unique scheduling of the ESC could play a deciding role in the big decision.
But then again, it may be way past EH’s bedtime.
Just another of the euro-million stories in this particular and tuneful naked city.
