Semi Final 1: What to watch

esc_australia_logo

The first Semi Final is not too far away.

Dickie Wilkins has watched and voted. And this is what you should be looking for from 5am AEST on Wednesday.

The Opening

Watch for: A surprise return of a Eurovision institution.

Wonder about: How many showers ORF has raided for its ceiling decorations.

Moldova

Watch for: Leather. Lots of leather.

Wonder about: Where the guns are.

Armenia

Watch for: Expressive hands.

Wonder about: Which Armenian fabric shop had enough tulle to create the costumes.

Belgium

Watch for: Brilliantly robotic staging.

Wonder about: Whether Loic will smile or not.

The Netherlands

Watch for: The closest close-up in 60 years.

Wonder about: Why-yay-yay she’s wearing balloon pants.

Finland

Watch for: The shortest song in 60 years.

Wonder about: The reaction.

Greece

Watch for: A major nod to Celine.

Wonder about: How further the plunge can go.

Estonia

Watch for: The hottest song in Europe at the moment (apparently).

Wonder about: Why the man does a runner.

FYR Macedonia

Watch for: Three of Macedonia’s multi-talented bouncers.

Wonder about: The versatility of gaffer tape.

Serbia

Watch for: The big reveal… And change in tempo.

Wonder about: How well the wind machine is holding up so far.

Hungary

Watch for: The magical, mechanical tree.

Wonder about: Who the song is really directed at.

Belarus

Watch for: A bit of leg.

Wonder about: How time is actually like thunder (or lightning, or any other weather phenomenon).

Russia

Watch for: A dress that is lit up more than a Christmas tree.

Wonder about: The audience’s true reaction.

Denmark

Watch for: The overly excited little one in the white t-shirt.

Wonder about: The issues about being up past their bedtimes.

Albania

Watch for: Batwoman’s stolen formal cape.

Wonder about: What exactly is going on there.

Romania

Watch for: People trying to play on your conscience.

Wonder about: Which tourists are surviving in Vienna without their clothes.

Georgia

Watch for: Phoenix-esque wings.

Wonder about: How Goth we can get.

Watch the live show on SBS ONE at 5am AEST, Wednesday and make your vote count (or else the scores from Dick and the crew will be the only ones used).
