Finland decides
Finland revamped its national selection this year from the standard Euroviisut into a new flashy selection called UMK tasked with finding a good Finnish song as opposed to a good Eurovision song.
UMK is also the launchpad for the revitalised and youth-centric YLE 2, and opinions have been divided on whether this new selection show will work in the future.
Wherever one stands on that issue, the important thing is that Finland has decided and out of 540 songs submitted, Finland will be represented by Pernilla Karlsson singing the ballad När Jag Blundar (“When I close my eyes”).
Swedish is actually an official language of Finland, as there is a Swedish-speaking population. Should the song stay in Swedish, it will be the second time that Finland will send a song in Swedish to Eurovision. (The song Fri? was the first.)
