Director & Producer Alessandra Zeka

This compelling documentary follows an OBGYN doctor at a public hospital in Managua, Nicaragua after a law is introduced that criminalises all abortion, even therapeutic abortions to save a woman’s life.
She and her colleagues struggle with this new and terrible conflict between their Hippocratic Oaths and the danger of prosecution. Alessandra talks with Sonja about uncovering the story, the emotional toll of making the film and her hopes for the story going forwards. “A Quiet Inquisition” screened at the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival 2015 in Melbourne.
This interview aired on Second Breakfast on May 14, 2015.
