On this episode of Knowing Me, Knowing You, Trent and Dave bring their journey, across multiple episodes, into exploring the topic of anxiety to an end.
For this final episode on anxiety, the boys speak with trauma-informed somatic breathwork practitioner, Katie Snyder (from The Whole Remedy), to find out how somatic breathwork can help us better understand and manage our anxiety. Katie talks about:
- her path to discovering breathwork,
- what the difference is between ‘somatic breathwork’ and ‘breathwork’,
- trauma-informed breathwork,
- the ways in which safety is maintained throughout a breathwork session,
- the difference between ‘upregulating’ and ‘downregulating’ breathwork, as well as
- the 4-7-8 breathing technique.
You can read more about the breathing technique and the studies that Katie mentions via:
- Psychological Climate for Caring and Work Outcomes: A Virtuous Cycle, which explains the effect of slow breathing techniques on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
- Study on Controlled Breathing and Anxiety
- Watch Dr. Andrew Weil demonstrate the 4-7-8 breathing technique on YouTube
- Guided 4-7-8 breathing with Dr. Weil for anxiety relief
