On this episode of Knowing Me, Knowing You, Trent and Dave explore the parts of people that can often be hidden – their sexual kinks and taboos.
Dave speaks to Dr Sarah Aston, the Director and Founder of Sexual Health and Intimacy Psychological Services (SHIPS) about a range of topics, including:
- What the difference is between kinks and paraphilia disorders,
- How people’s interests in their kinks and fantasies may be an adaptive way to deal with earlier traumatic lived experience,
- The role shame and internalised homophobia can play in a person’s stigimisation of their own kinks, taboos and fetishes, as well as
- The potential impact of neurodiversity on sexual interests and arousal.
In addition, the boys discuss:
- How “intimate disclosure” on dating apps can help with safe exploration of kinks, fantasies and fetishes,
- Whether personal values can inform or inhibit our expression of kinks and fetishes, and
- How exploring kinks and fetishes could be perceived as a healthy expression of a person’s sexuality.
