Being part of the LGBTQIA+ community is not one thing. Our community is so diverse – everyone has a different story.
Being a voice is a project from the Monash Gallery of Arts and the City of Monash, that showcases the diverse voices of LGBTQIA+ young people who live, work and play in the City of Monash.
Artists are asked to submit a photo that shares their experience of being a part of the rainbow community – that shares their voice.
Artists may choose to speak about LGBTQIA+ rights and speak up in protest, speak about their experience coming out or their what it means to them to be a part of the rainbow community – This is their story, their voice, their experience.
In this podcast special, host Jordan Johnstone is joined by Anouska Phizacklea – the Director of Monash Gallery of Art, and curator of the Being a Voice Exhibition.
Anouska and Jordan chat about her passion for art, and how a combination of an anonymous letter helped her build the Being a Voice exhibition.
We’ll also be joined by Stuart James, who is the mayor for the City of Monash.
Stuart will be joining Anouska and myself to chat about why the City of Monash helped to support the project and the importance of having inclusive projects such as Being a Voice which help to elevate and showcase the LGBTQIA+ community
