Miss Chatelaine #46 (part 1), 7 January 2018 – Festival of Small Halls + The Good Girl Song Project + Woodford Folk Festival wrap
Katie is back from Woodford, full of stories and songs (and suffering from bronchitis). In Part 1 of today’s show, she talks about and plays music from some of the artists she heard at the festival. And there are two interviews from Woodford. The first is with Eleanor Rigden, producer of the Festival of Small Halls; this festival takes excellent folk artists to perform in far-flung regional and rural areas of Australia. The second interview is with Helen Begley and Penny Larkins from the Good Girl Song Project – a song cycle based on the academic work of Liz Rushen that combines storytelling with original Celtic-flavoured songs to recount a voyage taken by young women to Australia in the 1830s. Here is the playlist:
- Miss Chatelaine – k.d. lang
- Something – Hunter
- Oft in the Stilly Night – Eleanor McEvoy
- Holding On – Sue Ray
- Judge – Claire Anne Taylor
- Jesus Blues – William Crighton
- Sweet Stillness – Kristina Olsen & Bill Coon
