Mandy Connell and Monica Weightman – Miss Chatelaine #51 (part 2), 18 February 2018

Music

Katie’s in-studio guests for the second hour of today’s show are local artists Mandy Connell and Monica Weightman. Mandy talks about growing up with folk music and about her various musical activities, including her 2017 album with Layla Jean and Alysia Manceau under the name The Maggie Darlings. Monica tells us about supporting US singer Rhiannon Giddens in 2016, writing with the late, great Paul Hester, and performing songs about Australian Indigenous experiences. Monica is one of Mandy’s guests in a new series of videos called An Otherwise Quiet Room, which feature Mandy playing and singing with local artists in local Melbourne venues. Here is the playlist:

  • Carry You – Newton Faulkner
  • Cruel Mother – The Maggie Darlings
  • Livin’ It Up – Monica Weightman with Mandy Connell (live in the studio)
  • Who Will Sing My Songs? – Monica Weightman and Mandy Connell (live in the studio)
  • About Your Business – The Maggie Darlings

Watch the videos from An Otherwise Quiet Room on YouTube, visit Mandy Connell’s official website, and follow Mandy on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And please visit the Miss Chatelaine Facebook photo album for some pics of Mandy and Monica at JOY!
