Helen Begley and Penny Larkins from the Good Girl Song Project – Show #70 (part 2), 29 July 2018
Katie welcomes guests Helen Begley and Penny Larkins to the JOY studio. She saw their Good Girl Song Project – a song cycle based on the academic work of Liz Rushen that combines storytelling with original Celtic-flavoured songs to recount a voyage taken by young women to Australia in the 1830s – at Woodford Folk Festival in December 2017. They are now conducting workshops encouraging participants to share the stories of their female ancestors, and doing some shows in Melbourne with their full band. Here is the playlist:
