With the annual National Folk Festival taking place in Canberra at Easter, Katie devotes today’s show to local and overseas artists who are playing at this year’s edition. The first hour includes a phone interview with Indigenous musician and performer Jessie Lloyd, creator of the Mission Songs Project and performer at the 2019 NFF. Jessie has travelled the country collecting songs people sang on Aboriginal missions and reserves after church – folk songs – in the period 1901–67 and has put out an album featuring some of the songs, with an ensemble of other musicians. Here is the playlist:
- Runaway – Guyy & the Fox
- Borders – Edgelarks
- Dance to Your Daddy – Bob Fox
- Goin’ Down – Elska
- Hopkins River – Mission Songs Project ft. Monica Weightman
- Down in the Kitchen – Mission Songs Project
- Chalk Me Up – East Row Rabble
Visit the Mission Songs Project website and follow the project on Facebook and Twitter.
