The Maes are Melbourne-based sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby, who play contemporary folk music that features beautiful harmonies, and whose new self-titled album has just been released. They join Katie in the studio with cello player Monique Clare, who is touring with them, to chat about the album, the joys of promoting their music, the amount of hard work that goes into making an album, and their current tour, which includes an upcoming appearance at the National Celtic Festival in Portarlington. They also perform two songs: the first single from the album, ‘Treat You Better’, and a fabulous acoustic cover of Janelle Monáe’s funky ‘Make Me Feel’. Here is the playlist:
- Driving Ali Through Mining Towns – The Maes
- Music Sounds Better With You – Duncan Saige
- Treat You Better – The Maes (live in the studio)
- Going Down – Karen Lee Andrews
- Make Me Feel – The Maes (live in the studio)
- Ripples – John Flanagan Trio
- You Can Love Yourself – John Flanagan Trio
- For Everyone – Jordie Lane & Yirrmal
