Ravi was born in Mumbai. His parents originally moved from Pakistan prior to the big split. He realized he was gay from age 9, but did not come out to his parents until around 33-34 years of age. Found it difficult to be gay in India, so ended up moving to Hong Kong at age 29 where he worked for a number of years. He has been a social worker for all of his working life, and is currently a counselor at Melbourne University. He and his air steward partner have been together for 15 years.
