– Sonya was born of a Cook Islander mother and a Dutch white father, both of whom lived and worked in New Zealand. Marital difficulties arose resulting in a temporary separation where Sonja’s mother moved temporarily to Australia, pregnant with Sonja, then later returned to New Zealand again with Sonja in tow, but her Dutch natural father did not accept she was his daughter, so she was adopted out. A fascinating journey of adoption, a subsequent search for her natural parents, drug addiction, and her sexual identity exploration.
