David Lim was born in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), the eldest child, and raised in a strict Pentecostal chinese family. He went to a public school whereas siblings went to chinese schools. The family moved to Perth when he was 12 where he found a freedom in school he had not encountered in Malaysia. However, he continued to be ridiculed at school for acting gay. The family later moved to Melbourne, where at 17 David accepted that he was gay. He did not tell his mother until he was 19, and his father only just recently. David is the co-presenter of the program, Diff’rent Strokes, on JOY 94.9.
