Talking Bone Health with Dr Alan

Society & Culture

xray

For teenagers it can be argued that breaking a bone is somewhat a rite of passage with a good majority of us will have sported a cast or nursed a fracture in our childhood or teenage years.

If this was your experience, you will know how painful it was and how much breaking or fracturing your bone impacted on your wellbeing and general enjoyment of life.

On Pets-A-Loud today, Dr Alan Bolton Senior Veterinarian at The Lost Dogs’ Home Frank Samways Veterinary Clinic joins us to talk about bone health in our pets and explore how orthopaedic surgery has transformed the lives of some of the Home’s recent shelter animals.

Also coming up on Pets-A-Loud today:

  • At The Lost Dogs’ Home we receive many lost, stray and abandoned cats and dogs that have sustained broken or fractured bones. Many of these animals will have unfortunately been hit by a car, and some left for days without medical attention before arriving at our shelters,
  • We speak with Veterinarian Dr Ton Tancharoen from our Frank Samways Veterinary Clinic who conducts a majority of our orthopaedic surgeries that turn around the lives of many of our shelter animals,
  • This Sunday October 20, Errol Street in North Melbourne will be closed off to traffic for the annual Spring Fling Street Festival. We check in with the organiser of the popular Dog Show to find out how you can get involved,
  • We’ll take a question from a Pets-A-Loud listener on grooming for Dr Alan’s Q&A segment,
  • And at the tail end of the program, we’ll have Dog Dates.
