Welcome to our weekly news bulletin for the gay and lesbian community, broadcast nationally via the Community Radio Network and on JOY 949. News this week includes;

  • A crowd of roughly 20 people took part in a straight lives matter rally over the weekend, compared to the 30,000 person rally for marriage equality.
  • Thousands of randomly generated mobile phone numbers received a Vote Yes text message, which not everyone was happy to receive.
  • The person who headbutted former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has since voiced the fact that he was not headbutting Tony Abbott because of his stance on same sex marriage.
  • Tasmania’s upper house has agreed to legislation that will wipe historical criminal records for gay and trans people in the state.
  • About 10,000 people were estimated to have attended the Brisbane Pride rally and march over the weekend.

In Sport;

  • The Brisbane Hustlers Rugby team have won the Purchas Cup over the Sydney Convicts in Melbourne.
  • Top 100 tennis player, Johanna Larsson, has come out as gay.
  • The AFL changed it’s logo to the word YES for 24 hours in support of marriage equality.
