Meet Geoff Field – Australian commercial radio’s first openly gay newsreader

Geoff field is the first openly gay newsreader on Australian commercial radio. He talks with each and Dene about:

his on-air coming out
his illegal wedding to partner Jason in the media spotlight, and
he wonders why we still don’t have marriage equality 11 years later.

Geoff Field was invited to become newsreader for The Kyle & Jackie O Show in 2004. At this point in his life Geoff made the firm decision not to hide his sexuality, and while never officially outing himself, he is proud to be known as the first openly gay newsreader on Australian radio. He and his partner were illegally married more than 11 years ago and they chose to make it public to raise awareness of the fact that they couldn’t legally marry, but in spite of that “the ceremony was as real and important to us as any of our ‘straight’ friend’s weddings”. He hopes that we won’t have to wait another 11 years for #AustralianMarriageEquality

Adam then tells us his story and gives some great reasons why “We Still Need Joy” – helping people come out and supporting people as they do.
