DEATHGASM: Horror Rocks ! with Jason Lei Howden

Sonja The Squeamer chatted on air way back in August during MIFF 2015 with Jason Lei Howden the director and writer of DEATHGASM a gore feast of Deathmetal (literally) and horror from Aotearoa!

Richard Whittaker of The Austin Chronicle wrote, “Shamelessly low-brow, reaching a beer-fueled gleeful high with a zombie-vs.-sex toys battle, it’s a very metal tribute to the grand tradition of Kiwi splatter comedies.”

Deathgasm is a 2015 New Zealand horror comedy film written and directed by Jason Lei Howden in his directorial debut. Starring Milo Cawthorne and James Blake as a pair of misfit heavy metal fans who unintentionally summon a demon, the film premiered on 14 March 2015 at South by Southwest.

Jason: I’d say a lot of it’s because New Zealand’s genre resurgence is very young… and a lot of it has been driven by Ant; I mean, Housebound and Deathgasm… Turbo Kid… Yeah, it’s great, I’m all for it, but it is very early days I think. We had a drought of 10 years or even more where we only had one or two genre films…excerpt from fourthreefilm.com interview with Jason and the film’s producer Ant Timpson.

Jason has worked on numerous WETA production films in NZ from the Hobbit franchise to The Avengers in special effects and digital special effects and now this is his debut splatter feature to horrify and entertain movie audiences, and it is definitely doing just that!!

DEATHGASM will gush bodily fluids, rain limbs and tickle your funny bone, before tearing it out and giving you a stiff beating with it.
