Sonja Hammer gets the opportunity to talk to Anna Rose Holmer the director, writer,producer of the indie film The Fits :”THE FITS is a psychological portrait of 11-year-old Toni—a tomboy assimilating to a tight-knit dance team in Cincinnati’s West End. Enamored by the power and confidence of this strong community of girls, Toni eagerly absorbs routines, masters drills, and even pierces her own ears to fit in. “The Fits,” an effective and creepy-surreal film directed by first-timer Anna Rose Holmer. Her gaze is unblinking at times, whether she’s doing sit-ups, pull-ups, trying on earrings, or staring at the older girls in the locker room of the Cincinnati community center where she spends the majority of her time.”The Fits” weaves a spell with a mood of unnameable uneasiness. Being a girl seems to be the central problem, or maybe being a girl is not a problem at all. “The Fits” is the kind of film that asks more questions than it answers. Anna Rose Holmer talks to Sonja about the experience of working with her best friends, Saela Davis & Lisa Kjerulff, on this ambitious and imaginative,surreal kind of film,brimming with the most captivating performances in a film in a long time,leading with Royalty Hightower who plays Toni.

Anna chats about the cinematography,the sounds and score of the movie, and the real dance drill team called Q-Kids who lend an authenticity in this unique debut movie shot at a real life community center in Cincinnati.
