On Thursday, the 3rd of July it will be the 141st anniversary of the birth of Franz Kafka, and it will also be James’ 43rd birthday coincidence? Yes, most likely but we decided why the hell not…and we are dedicating a whole show to his legacy and his life.
Franz Kafka, (July 3 1883 – 3 June 1924) was a German-speaking Bohemian novelist and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic. It typically features isolated protagonists facing bizarre or surrealistic predicaments and incomprehensible socio-bureaucratic powers.
The term Kafkaesque has entered the English language to describe situations like those found in his writing.
This is an archived show that I originally did back in 2020 during COVID and lockdowns, but have edited the show down a bit and added some more music at the end. This content was originally used on Radio Monash, Clayton Campus.
