David is back!
Brendan attended the gala reopening of the Astor theatre and reviews the film shown: an excellent Gillian Armstrong doco called Women He Undressed about an openly gay Australian costume designer from the 1920s to 40s, Orry Kelly. He also reviews the new Pixar animated film- Inside Out about a happy 11 year old girl whose emotions are thrown into turmoil when the family moves house. Brendan gave both films 5 out of 5.
Special guests today are:
Joe Lui is a freelance theatre multi-disciplinarian. Originally from Singapore and now based in Perth, he writes, directs, composes & does sound and lighting design. Joe’s show Letters Home is at Theatreworks in St Kilda Jul 1-12 and is about his decision to stay in Australia after finishing uni here and the consequences of that decision– including estrangement from his family. He reflects on the tumultuous period via unsent letters to his parents incorporating the wider message of identity and what makes us who we are.
Angharad Wynne-Jones is the Artistic Director from Arts House. Based at the North Melbourne Town Hall (and 10yo this year) Arts House is a space that supports independent artists and champions experimental and interdisciplinary practices in the arts AND is launching a full arts program (Season 2) on Jul 3.
