Executive Producer at Outer Urban Projects (OUP) Kate Gillick and writer/performer Koraly Dimitriadis talk about their show Poetic License on at fortyfivedownstairs from 20 to 24 June.
OUP is a Youth Performing Arts company based in the Outer North of Melbourne. Kate talks about this amazing company in detail. Koraly was asked by the director of Poetic License (Irine Vela) to be a participant in 2014, and it was a great springboard for her career. This is the third year Poetic License has been put on and Koraly is happy to be still part of it. Kate talks about her background as an actor, mainly working for Melbourne Workers’ Theatre–a place where many talented actors, directors and theatre creatives worked; including the multi-talented Irine Vela.
Poetic License has an eclectic group of performers (ranging from Rod Quantock to a 15 yo rapper) with each one in the show presenting their own narrative. Karoly reads an extract from her powerful narrative about her migrant background, live in the studio. OUP encourages community members and schools in their catchment area to attend the show, and tickets are made very accessible for them.
