Sexual assault in the gay community

Shannon

On tonight’s edition of The Informer we’re looking at sexual assault and sexism in the gay community, after Star Observer journalist Shannon Power penned an opinion piece on the issue and had gay men around the country up in arms.

In the piece, Power recounted an experience in which she was sexually assaulted by a gay man, and called for greater awareness around the sexist culture that exists within the community, prompting furious debate among many gay men.

We’ll also be turning our heads to the upcoming local government elections this year, with Victoria’s gay and lesbian rights lobby encouraging LGBTI Victorians to stand for their local council.

Producers: Matthew Wade and Scott Tetley
