A Call to Arms with Janet Rice and Hon Mark Dreyfus

Only days out from the new Turnbull government’s first day in parliament, one of their key party policies is already in danger as public demand for a free vote on same-sex marriage grows.

Since this Friday, The Greens and the Nick Xenophon team have committed to blocking the plebiscite legislation in the Senate. Without Labor’s support, the plebiscite has no chance of passing into law.

Labor continues to voice strong opposition to the public vote, though has not yet committed to voting one way or another.

With a recent Aus-wide poll reporting over 80% of the LGBTI community opposed the plebiscite, the call for a free vote is getting louder.

We’re joined by Janet Rice Victorian Senator for the Greens, and the Honourable Mark Dreyfus, Shadow Attorney General for the Opposition.
