‘Hate crimes’ and your rights with the police

Starlady

On tonight’s edition of The Informer we looked at assault in the queer community – how can you protect yourself if you find yourself in a confronting or threatening situation, and what are your rights when dealing with the police?

Queer activist Starlady and two of her friends were assaulted in Footscray over the weekend by a group of men, and then told by police they weren’t able to label it as trans or queerphobic, despite it clearly being a ‘hate crime’. Starlady joined us to chat about the incident.
