How do we safely protest? Are you ‘YES’ ready? Muslims 4 Marriage Equality : 14th August 2017

We’ve all seen the images that were coming out of Charlottesville, Virginia this weekend where demonstration by “Unite the Right”, a collection of far-right and neo-Nazi groups, has caused chaos and even deaths.

Australian antifascist group, Campaign Against Racism and Fascism (or CARF) have organised a rally in solidarity with the Charlottesville protestors, and all antifascist action and we speak to Chris from CARF and Victoria Police on how to engage in protest safely and respectfully.

Then, on Friday, The High Court agreed to hear a challenge to the Federal Governments Same Sex Marriage Postal Ballot, a week before the postal vote is due to begin. We break down what is legally happening with Felicity Marlowe, the lesbian mother of three who is part of the team bringing the case against the government.

To boycott or not to boycott the plebiscite, that is the question, and we have the answer! We speak to chair of the equality Project and long time activist Paul Kidd about how we can have a united front in this debate and whether boycotting is the right thing to do.

Also, are you YES ready? JOY 94.9 wants to make sure by getting your enrolment details up to date this Wednesday so you can be a part of his democratic process if the High Court Challenge doesn’t go through. Find out more here.

Finally, Muslims for Marriage Equality was established on the weekend and has raised some issues regarding the postal plebiscite that weren’t a part of the conversation. Fahad Ali, the founder and convener joined us on air to tell us more.

Dean Arcuri & Lara Dickinson are your hosts for The Informer.
