For the last four days, the relationship between Australia and the United States has been a focus in the global news cycle following a tense phone conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Turnbull.
The US appeared shocked and horrified that the President may have shaken a 65 year old alliance in a key geographical region. Australians enjoyed being the centre of attention and seeing our Prime Minister played on Saturday Night Live.
But the United States is currently locking horns with China, Australia’s neighbor and largest trade partner. This leaves Australia to consider where the increasing tensions between the two Big Powers will lead us.
Ruby spoke with Professor Tim Lynch, Associate Professor in American Politics in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne, about the history and future of the Australian/US alliance.
