Not all Beer and Skittles
Deb Verhoeven on the hustings against All Male Panels

Deb Verhoeven on the ‘Parade of Patriarchs’

Gillian’s co-host this week has been called Australia’s most innovative academic Deb Verhoeven,  Professor (and Chair) of Media and Communications at Deakin University. Deb earned her innovative tag by establishing a program for crowd funding university research projects including the first publicly funded clinical medical trial. Deb discusses with Gillian the right questions to ask of big data; her work on Madonna; her epic thesis on Sheep in Australian Cinema; why women mentors are important and why a dating app for academic singles might not be. She also shares her views on the preponderance of men on University conference panels as seen in her infamous YouTube rant Has Anyone Seen a Woman (link on the SilverFox Facebook page).

The music Deb can’t resist dancing too includes Shocking Blue, Madonna and War and while life as a university academic may not be all beer and skittles she finds her happy place with good music and good wine.
