Dale and Andrew from FTM Shed join the TRANS*positions team to discuss female-to-male (FtM) transition and some of the support available to both FtM’s as well as their partners and friends. Their involvement in the setting up of the support group FTM Shed, that has been providing support for around 2 years now.

Hmmm, what actually happens in the Shed.

There is an amazing support network available that grew up from necessity, while there have been support groups available for male-to-female transgender persons for many decades. female-to-male trans people typically found there were fewer resources and organised assistance available. Here are your hormones followed by on your bike and happy transition.

As many transgender people have pre-transition partners, and their involuntary participation in transition, FTM Shed helps their need for understanding and support. The realization for partners that they may no be as being the same type of relationship.

Developing new social skills is critical in successfully transitioning from one gender to another. Un-learning how to be female and then learning how to shave properly, how to dress appropriately for the occasion. A trans man needs to learn that you do not wear a suit to a BBQ just as a trans woman needs to learn not to wear a skirt the size of a handkerchief to a formal dinner, developing a whole new gender identity.

The FTM Shed is a non judging environment that enable trans men to build self confidence within them selves, before they have to step out into public.
