Playlists

Show 273

Living Inside Myself by Gino Vannelli.  I’m sure I knew this, but he’s Canadian, from Montreal.  This was a 1981 single

+You Think You’re a Man by Divine. Request from 1984.

+West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys. Request.

Creep by Radiohead. Request from 1993.

The Big Sky by Kate Bush. Request.

Everything About You by Ugly Kid Joe. From their 1992 debut full length album, America’s Least Wanted. They are from Isla Vista, California and formed in 1987. The band’s name spoofs that of another band, Pretty Boy Floyd.

Cool for Cats by Squeeze. Request.

See the Day by Dee C. Lee. Request.

Low by Cracker. American rock band Cracker. It appears on their 1993 album Kerosene Hat. Apparently the music video portrays lead singer David Lowery badly losing a boxing match with actress/comedienne and bisexual icon Sandra Bernhard.

Aussies from the rainbow

*+State of Mind by Sweet Jayne. The b-side to their 1981 single, Icarus. Featuring lesbian Cris Bonacci; lesbian drummer Robyn Clark was previously with the band but had left by ’81.

*+Untouchable Girls by The Topp Twins. Kiwi twins and lesbians who’ve been performing together forever.

*+Butchy Boys by Jimmy and the Boys. From their 1979 debut album, Not Like Everybody Else. Featuring openly gay artist Ignatius Jones.

*+The Futures Exchange by Judy Small. From this Federal Court judge, former muso, current lesbian.

*+Drive Baby Drive by Shona Laing. From her 1988 album, South. She’s an openly bisexual Kiwi artist.

*+Rhumba de Burros by Ignatius Jones. From the 1992 soundtrack to Strictly Ballroom. We’ve heard him before tonight, as the lead in Jimmy and the Boys, but here he’s on his own…still gay, though!

After a Fashion by Midge Ure & Mick Karn. Request. 1985

Love of a Lifetime by FireHouse. A signature ballad from this American glam metal band formed in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1989. The track is from 1990.

Till Death do Us Part by White Lion. You don’t hear this everyday but these guys were a Danish/American rock band, formed in New York City in 1983 by Danish vocalist Mike Tramp and American guitarist Vito Bratta. This is from their 1991 album, Mane Attraction…bad, bad pun!

When I see you Smile by Bad English. From their 1989 self-titled debut album. They were an American/British hard rock supergroup formed in 1987, reuniting keyboardist Jonathan Cain from Journey with singer John Waite and bassist Ricky Phillips.

To Be with You by Mr Big. From their 1991 album Lean into It.  This is the American Mr Big, from LA.

Death Boy by Mr Big. This is the UK band, entirely different from my previous band…and much better! This is the original B-side to their hit Senora in 1978.

Nasty Girl by Vanity 6. For Vanity herself, who died this week at age 57, from kidney failure due to prolonged use of crack cocaine…before she found god. Her real name was Denise Matthews.
