Show 319

This is Love by Susan Stevens. 1983 Italo Disco track. She put out a number of things but I can’t find a country of origin for her.

+Did Jesus have a Baby Sister by Heather Bishop. Canadian lesbian folk singer. This is from her second album, Celebration, released in 1981.

+Misty Blue by Wilma Burgess. US country singer who is also an out lesbian. This is one of her final tracks, released in 1983.

+The Cost of Freedom by Marla Glen. First track on her 1993 debut. This is Marla Glen. She’s from Chicago but her first song, Travel, won her an award that included a year in France. She stayed and became a star with the release of this first album. She now lives in Germany and is an out lesbian.

Baby I’m a Star by Prince. Request.

+100,000 Fireflies by The Magnetic Fields. 1991 single from their debut album, Distant Plastic Trees, released the same year.  They get an LGBTI tick for Claudia Gonson – percussion/piano/vocals (and group manager).

I don’t wanna fall in Love Again by Karen Silver. 1983 single release from this Canadian who got her start as back vocalist in Star City.

The Calling by Ken Heaven. 1986 debut single. He also did a cover of Sylvester’s You Make Me Feel but it didn’t move me… I believe he’s from Geneva, Switzerland.

Aussies – 3-word names

Be Patient by Serious Young Insects. 1982 single. They were a 3 member post punk band, Mark White, Peter Farnan & Michael Vallance, from Melbourne, formed in 1980 and lasted just 2.5 years.

*Go by Bachelors from Prague. 1988 single from their second album, The Energetic Cool.

*Goin’ Downtown by Kevin Borich Express.  1979 live version of a song recorded for their debut album in 1977, Celebration!  Borich himself was born in NZ and his first band The La De Das came out of there, but he has spent much of his musical career here with this band and The Party Boys.

*Paint it Blue by Living with Robert.  An independent three-piece band from Sydney active from 1985-93. Its members were Greg Hassall (guitar, vocals), Tony Locke (bass, vocals) and Rob Shannon (drums, vocals). All three members were also in the first line-up of The Godbotherers. This is from their self-titled debut.

*Body Talk by Koo De Tah. Their second single, from 1985. It was also included on their only album, a self-titled release from 1986.

*Shotgun Wedding by Weddings Parties Anything. 1987 single from Scorn of the Women, their debut album. They were active from 1984-99 here in Melbourne. Their name came from The Clash song Revolution Rock.
