Show 339

So Alive – Love and Rockets. From their 1989 self-titled 4th studio album.

Haven’t you heard by Patrice Rushen. Request.

319 by Prince. Request.

+Bicycle Race by Queen. Request.

I’m in like with a dyke named Spike by Bowser & Blue. B&B are a musical duo from Montreal who write and perform comedic songs. I first heard this song back in 1986 and it made me spit my drink all over I was laughing so hard. I’d never been able to find it before!

Invincible by Pat Benatar. Request.

+You Belong in Rock and Roll by Tin Machine. Hard rock group fronted by David Bowie, from 1988-92. This is the first single from Tin Machine II, obviously their second album, released in 1991.

Can you stop the rain by Audrey Wheeler. Request.

Love me the right way by Rapination & Kym Mazelle. Request.

Russian Reggae by Nina Hagen. Request.

Aussies – 1980

*Sooner or Later by The Innocents.  1980 single. Their debut under the name of The Innocents.  For the 5 previous years they’d been performing and recording as Beethoven. They’re from Tassie.

*Cheap Wine by Cold Chisel. 1980 single.

*What you do for Money, Honey by Ac/Dc.  6th From Back in Black, 1980.

*Tears by The Crocodiles. The 1980 title track to their only album.  They didn’t do much, though Jenny Morris and Bruno Lawrence, two well-known Kiwi musicians, did start with these guys.

*Crash Sweet Crash by The Bad Poets. Adelaide band from the early 1980s. They recorded a number of demos but only had this one official release – an original song – as part of “5MMM’s Compilation Album Of Adelaide Bands 1980”, put together by community station 5MMM, now Three D Radio.

*Daytrip to Bangor by Cathy and the Cucumbers. 1980 single release cover of Fiddler’s Dram’s original song from UK (which I played earlier this year). Cathy and the Cucumbers managed to reach number 13 in NZ up against Fiddler’s Dram at the same time on the charts. Fiddler’s Dram reached number 19. At the same time another cover was released in Australia by The Duffy’s Band which had a similar success and experience on the Australian charts. Fiddler’s Dram reached number three spot in the UK …but with no competition.

+Ready to Burn by Krokus. Featuring gay singer Rob Halford of Judas Priest on guest vocals. It’s from 1983 and their album Headhunter.

+Jan Brady by Lunachicks. Punk band featuring lesbian drummer Kate Schellenbach, also a founding member of The Beastie Boys, Lucious Jackson and a couple of other projects. This is from their debut album in 1990, Babysitters on Acid.

Blood and Roses – The Smithereens. From their first full length album, Especially For You, released in 1986.

Alive and Kicking – Simple Minds. Title track to their 1985 album.

Time the Avenger – The Pretenders. Their third album, Learning to Crawl, released in 1984 with this track on it.

China – Red Rockers. 1983 single for this New Orleans band.
