*The Best of Me by David Foster & Olivia Newton-John. Originally a David Foster solo song, from his 1983 debut solo album, he re-recorded in 1986 with Olivia and hit #6 on the Billboard Adult Contemp chart in the US. Bunches of other artists have done it as well, including Cliff Richard, who released it as his 100th single.
*69 Erotic Year by Mick Harvey and Anita Lane. They were both with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds but in 1995 Harvey put out this semi-solo album (Lane was on a number of tracks), a tribute to French musician Serge Gainsbourg. This was an English language version of Gainsbourg’s album, Intoxicated Man.
*Beats in the Depth by Hiroshi & Claudia. From their 1979 album, Six to Six. According to the blog AussieFunk, the whole album was composed by fairly well known Japanese guitarist Hiroshi Yasukawa and was recorded in both Japan and Sydney with a completely unknown (possibly Aussie) singer referred to only as Claudia. Interestingly, Discogs lists Claudia’s real name as Justin Varis…but Justin, who is white (Claudia is black), was born in 1979 in the US…the same year this track was released, so they can’t be the same person. It’s a mystery
*You’ve always got the blues by Kate Ceberano and Wendy Matthews. 1988 single that only reached number 81 here in Australia despite significant airplay on the tv show, Stringer.
*Hard Love by Vika and Linda. First track on their 1994 self-titled debut. They are the Bull sisters and have worked with everybody here in Oz, including a stint on Rockwiz.
*+Untouchable Girls by The Topp Twins. Kiwi twins and lesbians who’ve been performing together forever.
Slow Motion by Gerald Alston. Request.
Soft and Wet by Prince. 1978 request.
Electric Salsa (Baba baba) by Off (Organisation for Fun – pseudonym for German DJ Sven Vath). This is from his self-titled album in 1987. Italo Disco because I haven’t played any in awhile.
One Lover at a Time by Atlantic Starr. From the 1987 album, All in the Name of Love, their 7th but first with Warner Brothers after years with A&M.
Runner by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. 1984 single for this British band that had formed around Mann in 1971. I wanted the b-Side but couldn’t get it anywhere.
This Time by Neil Diamond. 1989 single from his 18th studio album, The Best Years of Our Lives, released the previous year in 1988.
