Playlists

Show 242

Shout by Tears for Fears. The second single taken from their second LP Songs from the Big Chair, released in 1985.

Eye Talk by Fashion. They were a British New Wave band made up of Dee Harris, Al “Luke Sky” James, Alan Darby, John Mulligan, Marlon Recchi, and Dik Davis. This was the first track and first single from their 1984 album, Twilight of Idols.

Free Your Mind by En Vogue. Request.

Uncertain Smile by The The. From the 16 Candles soundtrack, 1982. They are an English musical and multimedia group that have been active in various forms since 1979, with singer/songwriter Matt Johnson being the only constant band member.

Made of Stone by The Stone Roses. 1989 single from their self-titled debut released the same year. They are a Manchester band that followed on the heals of The Smith’s indie success a few years earlier.

Nights over Egypt by The Jones Girls. Request.

Can’t be your Part Time Lover by Nanette Frank. Request.

Flashdance by Irene Cara. Request.

Aussies – actually Kiwis

*It’s only Natural by Crowded House – 1991 hit for Kiwi artists Neil (Cornelius) and Tim (Brian Timothy) Finn.

*America by Shona Laing. 1984 single from her 1985 album, Genre, which was her 4th album release. Kiwi.

*Dirty Work by Max Merritt. 1979 single for this Kiwi who is best known as the lead guy for Max Merritt and the Meteors. His first single release was way back in 1958 and he continued to release new material till the mid-80s.

*Outlook for Thursday by DD Smash. DD is, of course, Dave Dobbyn, and they were previously known as Dave Dobbyn’s Divers. They are Kiwis though did most of their recording here. This is a non-album single from 1983.

*Walking in Light by Th’ Dudes. Dave Dobbyn’s band before DD Smash. This was a 1979 single that also came out on their second album, Where are the Boys?, released in 1980. This is a new to TripleX band, too!

*Daytrip to Bangor by Cathy and the Cucumbers. 1980 single release cover of Fiddler’s Dram’s original song from UK. Cathy and the Cucumbers managed to reach number 13 in NZ up against Fiddler’s Dram at the same time on the charts. Fiddler’s Dram reached number 19. At the same time another cover was released in Australia by The Duffy’s Band which had a similar success and experience on the Australian charts. Fiddler’s Dram reached number three spot in the UK …but with no competition. Another new band for me.

True Blue by Madonna. Request.

Ever Fallen in Love by Fine Young Cannibals. The 1986 remake of a Buzzcock’s tune by FYC for the Something Wild soundtrack, starring starring Melanie Griffith, Jeff Daniels and Ray Liotta.

Vow by Garbage. “Vow” first appeared on a Volume CD sampler at the end of 1994.

Fountains in the Rain by Land of Giants. This is one tough band to find information about. This track is from Cannibal Dolls/Seven Men, which I believe is a 1982 12” record. Not quite a full album so perhaps an EP. It was released in Canada so I suppose so were they. They are listed as being active from 1982-85…and yet they did release a CD of old material in 2008.

Two Minute Warning by Depeche Mode. The first track on side 2 of their 1983 album, Construction Time Again, which was their third. It’s the first album with Alan Wilder, Vince Clarke’s replacement on keyboards; Wilder wrote both this track and The Landscape is Changing.
