Trapped by Tupac. From his 1991 debut album, 2pacalypse Now. I started it last week when I couldn’t get the overnight to play but you only had a few seconds. So here it is in its entirety.

There is a Light that Never Goes Out by The Smiths. From their 1986 album, The Queen is Dead, their third. I’m sure you all know this but they were from Manchester in the UK and gave Morrissey his kick into famedom.

Is that Love by Squeeze. 1981 single, the first from East Side Story, their 4th studio album, also from 1981.

I won’t Take the Blame by DelAmitri. From Change Everything, their 3rd studio album, released in 1992. They are, of course, amongst the Scottish bands on the cd from Moira…liked ‘em so much I got this album!

See You by Depeche Mode. their fourth UK single, the first written by Martin Gore. The single was released on 29 January 1982 and was later included on the band’s second album A Broken Frame.

Till Midnight by Evelyn “Champagne” King. From the Action Anthology, a compilation of track from 1977-86.

Little Girl by Sandra. From her 1985 album, 18 Greatest Hits.

Well, did you Evah! by Iggy Pop & Debbie Harry. From 1990’s Red Hot & Blue.

A Wish Away by The Wonder Stuff. The band’s 4th single, released in 1988. It was also on their debut album, The 8 Legged Groove Machine, also from 1988. Wonder Stuff were British, formed in 1986 and featured Miles Hunt, nephew of ELO keyboardist Bill Hunt.

A Kind of Magic by Queen. From their 1986 album, Greatest Hits 2.

Your Wildest Dream by The Moody Blues. From 1986’s Journey Thru Time.

Aussies from 1981

*Jessie’s Girl by Rick Springfield. Sydney’s Richard Lewis Springthorpe’s #1 hit from 1981. Best known in the US for playing Doctor Noah Drake on the daytime soap General Hospital, 1981-3 and 2005-8.

*What a Bitch is Love by Marcia Hines. 1981 single from the album Take it From the Boys, her sixth.

*Counting the Beat by The Swingers. The 1981 1-hit-wonder from Kiwi band, The Swingers. The band featured Split Enz member, Phil Judd, and actually had a number of hits in New Zealand. Sadly they never broke through again here, despite being signed by Mushroom Records and, as with so many Kiwis, having moved here permanently.

*Igloos by XL Capris. From their second album, Weeds, from 1981. The band was made up of Julie Anderson, Tim Gooding, Johanna Pigott and Kimble Rendall.

*Second Language by Tactics. Tactics formed in Canberra and moved to Sydney in late 1978. Tactics became known for running against the grain musically, lyrically, and stylistically. The lineup changed year by year, with songwriter and vocalist David Studdert the only constant member throughout the band’s history. 1981 release from their 1980 debut album, My Houdini.

*For those about to rock by Ac/Dc. Title song of the band’s eighth album, released in 1981. The album was a follow-up to their highly successful album Back in Black and thus features Brian Johnson. It was AC/DC’s first and only No. 1 album in the USA until the release of Black Ice in October 2008.

The Smile and the Kiss by Bonk. This was a 1983 single release from this little known UK new wave band. Toni Holiday, the singer from Curve, sang back up but was uncredited on the release; it was her first commercial success.

Love is just the Great Pretender by Animal Nightlife. From their only album, Shangri-La, released in 1985. They were British.

Stool Pigeon by Kid Creole and the Coconuts. From their 1982 album, Tropical Gangsters, their 3rd – it was called Wise Guy in the US. The Kid was August Darnell…or his real name was Thomas August Darnell Browder. They are still going strong, though The Coconuts, his 3 back up singers, have changed many, many times.

Warm Leatherette by Grace Jones. Title track to her 1980 album, her 4th studio album.

The Condos by Iron Curtain. According to a 2006 interview with band leader Steve Fields, “That song is about our concepts regarding the after-life. It reflected my concerns about consciousness and ‘death’.” There was a slow original version, which Fields prefers, plus this more upbeat reworking, that is the band’s stand out release from their self-titled 1981 cassette album release.

Between 2 Hearts by Samedi. 1987 track that sounds a tad like Depeche Mode.
