They were: Damian Child (yes, a woman) on bass guitar; Anne McCue on lead guitar and vocals; Sherry Valier (aka Sherry Rich) on vocals and rhythm guitar; and Sue World on drums and vocals (ex-Wet Ones).

*Cowboy Lover by Rhapsody. New to me! Duo of Kymberlie Harrison and Cathy Ford. They had a minor hit (No. 95 on the ARIA singles chart) in 1992 with this track.

*As Does the Sun by Look Blue, Go Purple. New to me Kiwi band. 5-piece female band from Dunedin active from 1983-87. This is a b-side to their 1985 debut EP, Bewitched.

*All Mixed Up by The Twins. New to me! Though I’ve played them in their later incarnation as Gayle and Gillian. This is their 1991 debut from Stock Aitken Waterman following their initial time on Neighbours.

*Girl’s Life by Girlfriend. A five-girl pop group formed in 1991. This was the second single released from their 1992 debut album, Make it Come True.

*Harmony Blues by The Moir Sisters. A 1975 single from this group of sisters who migrated to Oz from Scotland during childhood.

Coming Home by Bryan Adams. 1981. For DJ, who came home from the army for the holidays.

+Vacation by The GoGos. Title track from GoGos 2nd album, 1982. Belinda Carlisle (vocals), openly bisexual guitarist, vocalist and writer Jane Wiedlin, Margot Olaverra (bass), and Elissa Bello (drums), Charlotte Caffey (lead guitar, keyboards) was added later in 1978. They made history as the first all-female band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to top the US Billboard album charts with 1981s Beauty and the Beat.
Trojan Horse by Luv’. Dutch girl group Luv’, released in the autumn of 1978. If you weren’t in Continental Europe South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or Mexico in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you’re probably not terribly familiar with them, but in 1979 Luv’ was “Holland’s best export act” and thus received the “Conamus Export Prize.”

+Easy by Faith No More. American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1979. Before settling on their current name in 1983, the band performed under the names Sharp Young Men and later Faith No Man. Bassist Billy Gould, keyboardist and LGBTIQ community member Roddy Bottum, and drummer Mike Bordin are the longest remaining members of the band, having been involved with Faith No More since the beginning. This is a 1992 single from Angel Dust, their 4th studio album.

Don’t talk to me about Love by Altered Images. 1983 single, also featured on their third and final album, Bite, also from ’83. They’re Glaswegian and feature on the Scottish music cd I received from Moira.

She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals. A single from their 1989 album The Raw and the Cooked…which is also the title of a book by noted French anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss.

Wuthering Heights by Pat Benatar. Speaking of works by Emily Bronte, here’s the 1980 Pat Benatar cover of Kate Bush’s song, written and recorded in 1978 when she was just a teenager, and inspired originally because Bush shares a bday with Bronte, (30 July – Leos, figures). I was a huge PB fan back in the day and knew her version long before Bush’s original. What do you think?
