Aussies: M– in honour of 6 years on air, I am running a repeat of the very first 6-pack I did, back on 28 Aug 2011.
*Mr Natural. First of an Australian six pack of songs by bands or singers that start with the letter M. Why? Because I can. Just like Sesame St, today’s Australian tunes are brought to you by the letter M. This one is the first single from the Bicycle EP released Christmas Day 1994; it did really well and was thus included on their 1995 album Liar, Liar Pants on Fire.
*Cool World by Mondo Rock. 1981 single from this Melbourne-based band that included James Black who Australians will know as the band leader on RockWiz.
*Best of Both Worlds by Midnight Oil. Their only single released in 1985. It came from the album, Red Sails in the Sunset, which came out the year before.
*Insecurity by Mirrored Image. Mirrored Image was one of Sydney’s hardest working, un-signed bands of the early eighties. These guys were constantly working near seven shows a week Fronted by sisters Christine and Tracy Mullane, the band played a mixture of covers and original material. I’ve been in touch with Christine’s daughter who was looking for a song of theirs…but I couldn’t find it either.
*This is the Life by Mother Goose. Title track from their 1982 album.
*Settle Down My Boy by Men at Work. From Cargo in 1983. This wasn’t the original 6-pack track from them, it was Man With Two Hearts, but I’ve already played it this year. So here’s a substitute from the same band… Hope you don’t mind!
Walk Don’t Walk by Prince & the New Power Generation. Request. 1991
Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson. Request.
+Femme Bitch Top by Tribe 8. San Francisco lesbian band from the 1990s. This is from oner of their 1995 albums, Fist City.
+Because You’re Young by David Bowie. Request.
+Blue Savannah by Erasure. Wild. 1989.
She’s Single Again by Reba McEntire. From 1985’s Have I got a Deal For You. I worked for a summer at Darian Lake, an amusement park not far from my home town, and every day, all day long, they played just 2 albums, this one and something from the Supremes. It was maddening!!
